Trip Overview

Tsum Valley Trek is an off the beaten trails to trek to the Manaslu Region. Hike to the Tsum Valley to explore the hidden Himalayas and monasteries of the region. Explore the lifestyle and culture of the Gurung community along the trails.

Hike along the trails of the Tsum Valley to explore the unhindered lands of the country. The Tsum Valley Trek starts with a drive to the village of Arughat. The drive will take us through the village headquarters of Dhading Besi. From Arughat, the trekking goes up and down along the trails to Soti Khola, Maccha Khola, Jagat, and such other villages before arriving at the Tibetan nunnery, Rachen Gompa. Further uphill and downhill climb will take us to our major destination, the Mu Gompa. Enjoy the historically sacred monasteries of the region. Also, enjoy the panoramic views of the Annapurna, Himalchuli, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal.

Day 1
Drive from Kathmandu to Arughat (600m)

With our bags prepared the previous day, we will start off with a long drive to the village of Arughat. The drive will take us along the Prithvi Highway to get to the village of Dhading Besi, the headquarters of Dhading. Drive through the village on terraced hills to get to the village of Arughat before evening. The town is divided into two parts by the Budhi Gandaki River. Check in at the hotel and explore the village.

Day 2
Arughat to Soti Khola (700m)

Get to the other part of the Arughat village after crossing the Budhi Gandaki River. Hike uphill through paved path out of the Arughat Bazaar to come across a hydroelectricity power plant along the way. Hike along the Mangaltar village and Shanti Village to climb up a steep trail to the Arkhet Bazaar. Further climb uphill will take us to the Kuerepani and from there, it is all descend to Soti Khola. Also, enjoy a huge waterfall along the trekking route.

Day 3
Soti Khola to Maccha Khola (870m)

Cross the Soti Khola and trek through the Sal forest to climb uphill and downhill along steep sections to reach the Gurung village of Labubesi. Along the way, we will be able to see the rice terraces, waterfalls, and green hills. After lunch at the village, climb up through the stone steps along the ridgeline to get to the village of Maccha Khola.

Day 4
Maccha Khola to Jagat (2340m)

Hike along the banks of the Budhi Gandaki and gradually climb uphill. Hike along the steep stone steps to get to the village of Tatopani, the home to the natural hot springs. Leave the village to hike along the cliffs to get to the village of Dobhan. Keep hiking forward to higher grounds to reach the village of Jagat. Today, we will enter the Manaslu Conservation Area.

Day 5
Jagat to Chisapani (1660m)

We will start with a climb over a rocky trail to get to the village of Salleri. From there, a descend will take us to the village of Sirdibas. Walk along the Ghatta Khola to feel the road widen with our further climb uphill. Cross a suspension bridge over the Khola to climb up to the village of Philim. After a visit to the Gurung village, we will walk past a forest downhill to finally get to Chisapani.

Day 6
Chisapani to Chumling (2386m)

Hike uphill along the rocky pathways to get to the village of Ekle Bhatti. Walk along the Budhi Gandaki River once again to pass a narrow gorge and walk through the forest of pine and birch to finally make our way to the Tsum Valleys. First, we will get to the village of Lookpa and then get to another Gurung village of Gumlung. Cross the Kungwa Khola and Siyar Khola to finally get to the village of Chumling. Explore the Chumling monastery and the stroll around the village. Along the way, we will be able to enjoy waterfalls, forests, and views of the high snow-capped peaks like Himalchuli, Manaslu, and Annapurna.

Day 7
Chumling to Chokhangparo (3010m)

Get out of the village of Chumling after crossing a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River. Hike uphill along the rough trails to get to the village of Rainjam. Cross the Serpu Khola to arrive at the village of Gho Village. After a 2 hours climb from there, we will reach Chhokangparo. Enjoy the views of the Himalchuli and Ganesh peaks.

Day 8
Chokhanparo to Nile (3361m)

Wake up to the views of the Ganesh and Himalchuli peaks. Climb uphill along a strenuous uphill trail to get to the Lamagaon. Cross s suspension bridge to get to the Rachen Gompa. The gompa is known as the Nunnery Gompa because it homes a group of female convents. Keep walking uphill to get to the village of Lar and Phurbe. The village of Lar has a micro hydropower to power up the bulbs. Further climb uphill along the river will take us to the village of Nile.

Day 9
Nile to Mu Gompa (3700m)

Hike along the river bank to get close to the Tibetan border. Keep hiking uphill to get to the village of Mu Gompa. We will visit the monastery of Mu Gompa. Explore the mani walls, prayer flags, and chortens along the way. Visit the Dhephu Doma Gompa after lunch.

Day 10
Mu Gompa exploration

Today, we will explore the Tibetan-influenced culture and tradition of the Gurung community. Slowly wander around the Mu Gompa village to explore the stupas in the town. Enjoy the views of the high Manaslu, Pika, and such other peaks.

Day 11
Mu Gompa to Burgi Village (3245m) via Milarepa Cave

Get back along the same trails we used to get to the Mu Gompa. Hike back to the village of Chhule to take a short retour to the Burgi Village. The Milarepa cave is just above the village. Climb to the village to have great views of the Himalchuli, Kipu, Pika, and Ganesh peaks. The Milarepa cave is also called Piren Chu (Pigeon Cave). The sacred cave was once an abode of the great Tibetan Saint, Milarepa.

Day 12
Burgi Village to Chumling (2386m)

Today, we get back to the village of Chumling. Get to the previous track to hike along the green forest and get to the village of Chhokangparo. From here, keep descending to reach the village of Gho. Further, descend downhill will take us to the village of Chumling.

Day 13
Chumling to Philim (1570m)

Get out of the Chumling village to continue to Lo.kpa. Keep climbing downhill through pine forest and high waterfalls to get to the village of Philim. To get to Philim, we will get past the Gurung villages of Ekle Bhatti and Gumlung. Enjoy the views of the Manaslu and Ganesh peaks.

Day 14
Philim to Khorlabesi (970m)

Wake up to the beautiful sunrise over the Ganesh peak and fill yourself with fodder. After breakfast, descend along the Sirdibas village to get to Jagat. Keep descending to get to another Tibetan-influenced village of Yaruphant. A subtropical forest along the way. Continue trek to Dobhan and get to the village of Tatopani. Keep ascending up and down to get to the village of Khorlabesi.

Day 15
Khorlabei to Soti Khola (700m)

Hike along the Tharo Khola to head down to the village of Machha Khola. Climb the trails downhill to make way to the Gurung village of Labubesi. Pass a couple of waterfalls on steep rocky trails to get to the village of Khursane. Further hike downhill will take us to the village of Soti Khola.

Day 16
Soti Khola to Arughat to Kathmandu (1400m)

The last day of our tour. Cross the village of Arkhet to walk along the village of Budhi Gandaki and get to the Santee Bazaar. Climb downhill along the forest to reach Maltar. Keep descending downhill to get to the village of Arughat. Drive along the Marsyangdi Khola with views of the green hills and terraced farmlands to arrive at the capital city of Nepal. We will guide you to the hotel and let the trek com to an end.
