“Trek to the off the beaten trails to the deepest lake of Nepal, the Phoksundo Lake ”

Phoksundo Lake Trek is a cultural trek to the holy and serene Phoksundo Lake. Explore the deepest lake of the country alongside a series of old Buddhist and Bon shrines and monasteries.

The Phoksundo Lake trek starts with a flight to the village of Nepalgunj. From there, we will take another flight to the Juphal village. Our arrival at the village marks our entry to the Dolpo Region. Start the trek along the river banks to get to the village of Dunai. Then, hike through the rural villages of Chhepka and Jharana hotel to arrive at Ringmo. The Jharana Hotel offers great views of a high waterfall. Ringmo village sits on the southern banks of the Phoksundo Lake. Enjoy the stroll around the holy turquoise lake of Phoksundo. Also, let’s not forget about the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks.

Join us in this 9-days trekking expedition to the Phoksundo Lake to explore the sacred lake and the cultural diversity in the western part of the country. The best time to visit is during the months of March to May and October to November. Trekking to this region requires a decent fitness level. Day 01: Flight to Nepalgunj

Day 02: Flight to Juphal (2475m) and trek to Dunai (2145m)

Day 03: Dunai to Chhepka (2670m)

Day 04: Chhepka to Jharana Hotel

Day 05: Jharana Hotel to Ringmo (3460m)

Day 06: Explore Phoksundo Lake (3611m)

Day 07: Phoksundo Lake to Chhepka (2670m)

Day 08: Chhepka to Juphal (2475m)

Day 09: Juphal to Nepalgunj and fly to Kathmandu (1400m)

Day 1
Flight to Nepalgunj

With the preparation of your bags already in place, we will travel to the TIA for an early morning flight to the town of Nepalgunj. The village is used as a gateway of Humla and also, for the Dolpo Treks. Check in at the hotel and rest for the remaining day. Or, explore the outskirts of the valley.

Day 2
Flight to Juphal (2475m) and trek to Dunai (2145m)

It will be an early morning flight today too as we need to trek after our flight. Fly to Juphal. Enjoy the views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain Ranges during the flight. We will meet the porters as we reach the village. The trek starts with a smooth peaceful walk through terraced paddy fields. Keep hiking along the river bank and narrow ravines to get to the village of Dunai. The village is the headquarters of the Dolpa Region. Enjoy your stay in the small village.

Day 3
Dunai to Chhepka (2670m)

Start with a descent through the old streets of Dunai to get to the Bheri River. Cross the river and walk along the banks until we get to the village of Sulighat. Enter the Shey Phoksundo National Park to gradually hike uphill along the rocky trails through the cedar forest to arrive at the village of Shyanta. A further uphill climb will take us to the village of Chhepka.

Day 4
Chhepka to Jharana Hotel

Wake up early to enjoy the mountain views. Fill your bellies with fodder and climb through a forest of rhododendron and cedars to get to the settlement of Jharana Hotel. As the name suggests, the hotel (Jharana) offers a great view of a high waterfall. The waterfall sits high above 300 meters. The hotel also offers views of the Phoksundo Lake.

Day 5
Jharana Hotel to Ringmo (3460m)

Today, we will be making our way to the village of Ringmo. A steep descent through a lush forest will take us to the Phoksundo Khola. Cross a bridge to follow the river and hike all the way to the village of Ringmo. The village is popular for the Bon religion they follow. The village sits on the banks of the Phoksundo Lake.

Day 6
Explore Phoksundo Lake (3611m)

An exploration of the Phoksundo Lake! Start with the exploration of the Ringmo village then travel to the lake for its enjoyment. Enjoy the bluish colored lake alongside spectacular scenery. The lake is the deepest lake of Nepal with a total depth of 145 meters. The Ramsar site came to origin after a hill collapsed with landslide creating a dam. The lake also exerts a religious significance as there are numerous stupas on the banks of the lake.

Day 7
Phoksundo Lake to Chhepka (2670m)

Enjoy the last views of the Phoksundo lakes as we hike past the village of Ringmo back to the village of Chhepka. Follow the trails back to the village through the village of Jharana hotel and a forest of cedars to get back to the Chhepka village.

Day 8
Chhepka to Juphal (2475m)

Follow the route through the village of Shyanta and Sulighat to get to the village of Dunai. From there, it is a peaceful walk to the village of Juphal. Hike along the terraced fields to get to the village of Juphal for an early flight the next day.

Day 9
Juphal to Nepalgunj and fly to Kathmandu (1400m)

The last day of our trekking itinerary! Wake up early for a flight to the village of Nepalgunj. From there, board another plane to the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. We will drive you the hotel and let the trek come to an end.
